Celebrating the Past. Paving the Way to the Future.

Buffalo is blending new ideas with their 19th-century heritage. Here is a place where we celebrate the architecture of H.H. Richardson and Frederick Law Olmsted landscape design. These bring significance to our community, and inspiration to our educational tours mindfully planned with representatives from our neighborhoods, cultural institutions, the Buffalo Psychiatric Center, SUNY Buffalo State, businesses, and historic preservation organizations.

A Continuance of Innovative Healing

The Buffalo Psychiatric Center continues to operate primarily on the east portion of the Olmsted Campus. It was once housed in The Richardson building whose design supports mental healing with plenty of light and large spaces in which to interact. The harmonic balance of the structures and tranquil landscape create a therapeutic environment, said to be beneficial for patients with mental illness in the late nineteenth century. The practice continues today.
